Under The World We Know Part 4

Part 4 of Under the World We Know, Bion jumpes into the ravine. I kept it short this time because of how tired my brain was. So suffer with the odd confusion of mystery. Please with this, tell me how I did, and also possibaly ways to descibe the fall into the rift. Maybe some good metaphores I could use to describe it.

Inside the cave closely resembled what it must be like to sit inside a recently drained coffee mug. It was not only warm, but humid and damp. All climates that don’t bode well for creative thinking and Bion’s head had started pounding the moment he submerged below ground. His eyes hurt from adjusting to the darkness, and his body resisted the will to move from the inclining stress of the situation. Carson lay on a ledge in a bottomless chasm, the only thing that kept Bion from utter insanity was the ruby necklace clutched in his hand. He rubbed the gem thoughtfully and observed the cave around him. It was a meek piece of cave, excluding the gaping hole at the end of it. To Bion’s right was an assortment of misshapen rocks from millennia of water erosion, and to his left, almost the exact same. But hidden, almost out of site was something that might be useful. Bion grabbed his bag and walked away from his brother to investigate.

He approached a rather odd looking set of rocks. They were a kaleidoscope in the invariable wash of grey surrounding them. Bion scoped out the arraignment of odd paint-like spots more closely and noticed that they were raw granite, a rock durable enough to sustain his brother’s weight. Quickly, as to not waste any time, Bion grabbed a rope out of his backpack and tied a hefty knot around one of the granite pieces. Then, tying the same knot around himself he returned to face the hollowness of the chasm. Carson was stuck underneath a pile of rocks, there was no way he would be able to free himself alone. So Bion was going to have to jump into the darkness after him. He walked up to the lip of the chasm and tried to gulp down his fears. Still his hands shook, and his head throbbed, but there, standing on the edge of his nightmare, he made a decision and, with a resentful groan, he launched himself headfirst into the abyss.
